1. CHAMAREL 7 COLOURED EARTH

During the session that took place on November 26, 1879, a member of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences of Mauritius was the one who first brought to light the fact that multicolored earth could be found in Chamarel. Toussaint and Charles de Chazal de Chamarel, sons of Francois de Chazal de la Genesté, a former member of the Superior Council of the island, were granted a 625-arpent concession in the region in 1786. This historical village in the southwestern uplands of Mauritius is named after Toussaint and Charles de Chazal de Chamarel. They were granted the concession in 1786.

Since the beginning of tourism on the island in the 1960s, the Seven Coloured Earth site has been a key draw for visitors due to the peculiar and extraordinary phenomenon that it entails. The sand dunes have been found to have a thickness of up to 15 meters and include evidence of ancient climatic activity.

The interesting history of continental drift and collision, volcanic eruptions, and other magnificent occurrences led to the construction of tropical reefs and oceans, lagoons, mountain ranges, and basalt cliffs, all of which can be found on the island of Mauritius. These events are part of the story. Basalt that was generated from outpourings of lava that occurred during the intermediate period between 3 and 1.7 million years ago eventually changed into gullied clay as a result of weathering caused by hot and humid circumstances.

Iron and aluminum oxides have been left behind after this extensive and comprehensive breakdown process. The sands have been colored in hues ranging from red to brown as a result of the presence of ferric oxide, while the presence of aluminum oxide has produced hues ranging from blue to violet-blue in coloration.

Iron and aluminum particles have a natural repulsion force that causes them to stay away from one another. This may be the cause of the continuous separation of the various strips of colored sand. Over the course of thousands of years, rainfall has sculpted the sand into winding patterns that may be seen in the dunes.

The Seven Coloured Earth Geopark is an experience that is culturally linked to Chamarel and provides guests with an incredible view into millions of years of natural history, geology, and evolution. The Seven Coloured Earth Geopark has its roots in the history of Chamarel.

2. LA VALLEE DES COULEURS (23 COLOURED EARTH)

Due to its location located at the foot of a volcano, La Vallee des Couleurs in Mauritius acquired a beautiful consequence of million-year chemical reactions from volcanic ashes. These ashes changed in composition over time as rains, moisture, oxygen, and carbon dioxide interacted, resulting in a pallet of 23 colors ranging from red to brown, pale yellow, ochre, purple, bluish, and greenish.

After years of painstaking research, scientists have conclusively demonstrated the reality of the 23-coloured earth by referring to international color standards and have certified the phenomenon to be genuine: The 23 coloured earth is unique to La Vallée des Couleurs in Mauritius. Your visit to La Vallée des couleurs should be at the very top of your list of things to do in Mauritius while you are vacationing on the island because it is one of the most unique and unforgettable attractions in all of Mauritius.
